Messages after you switch phones

SMS follows the number. App chats follow the account. They are not the same inbox.
Text messages
Ordinary texts are tied to the number and the phone's transfer tool. If the tool offers messages, include them at the start. Adding them later is harder on some makers.
Group texts that arrive only on the old phone after a day mean the transfer was partial. Do not erase yet.
Chat apps
Apps that use your number still want the old phone nearby to approve the new login. Install the app, request the move, and approve it on the old device while it is on Wi-Fi. If you skip that, you may start a new empty history.
We follow the app's own prompts. We do not use unofficial exporters that ask for your password.
The visit
Name the two apps that matter when you book. An hour cannot rebuild every chat from the last decade, and it should not try.
Work accounts on a personal phone may be managed by an employer. We stop if their policy locks the device. That is their desk, not a defect.
