Air

Game consoles and receivers push hot air from specific grilles. A shelf that covers the grille will shut the device down on the exact night you wanted a movie. Leave the gap the manual shows, even if the photo of the room looks tighter.

A soundbar can share the shelf if it does not become the lid of the console.

The mount height

Hanging the TV just above a tall console can still put the picture too high. Measure from the seat. If the console is the constraint, a lower stand for the gear is sometimes the real fix, and we will say that before we drill a high plate.

Cable slack should reach the gear without pulling the TV forward off the mount.
