Secure Boot certificate updates on a home PC

Leave the security update installed. The certificate work is part of keeping the machine bootable later.
What is happening
Microsoft's 2026 servicing notes describe Secure Boot certificate updates delivered through Windows Update, with more devices becoming eligible over time. The September 8, 2026 update specifically mentions additional targeting data so more PCs can receive new certificates.
This is maintenance for the boot process, not a new printer driver and not a reason to wipe the PC.
What to do at home
Install Windows updates on power and let restarts finish. Do not toggle Secure Boot off in firmware because a forum post disliked the wait. If the PC was bit-locked by an employer, ask them before you change firmware. Home machines you own should simply update.
If an update loops, book online computer support with the error text photographed. That is a fixable visit more often than a dead board.
What we will not do
We will not sell a BIOS flashing session as a default add-on to a headline. Firmware changes are a last resort when the maker's own instructions say the board needs them.
A tune-up remains startup, updates, and storage. Certificate delivery rides along with the updates we already apply.
