Windows 11 24H2 home support ends in October 2026

Unmanaged home PCs are steered to 25H2. The deadline is a calendar fact, not a sales pitch.

Laptop that should move to a supported Windows version — October 13, 2026 is the Home and Pro end date for 24H2.

The date

Microsoft's Windows 11 release table lists version 24H2 Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations as reaching end of updates on October 13, 2026. After that, those editions do not get monthly security updates. Enterprise dates differ.

Microsoft says unmanaged home devices on 24H2 will be offered 25H2 automatically, and you can schedule the restart. Version 26H1, released for early 2026 hardware, is not an in-place update for the PC you already own.

Home PC update — 25H2 is the path for existing PCs.

A calm upgrade

Free space, power, and a backup of the desktop folder are the preparation. A feature update is a bad moment to discover the only copy of your photos lived on the internal drive.

If the offer never appears, a tune-up or an online session can read why. A full reinstall is the long visit, booked only when the in-place path has failed.

24H2 end of updates — 26H1 is for new devices shipped with it.

New computers

A PC sold with 26H1 stays on that servicing branch. You do not downgrade it to match a neighbor's 25H2. New computer setup still moves your files and your printer.

We will not wipe a working PC because a version number looks older, if it is still receiving updates.
