One printer for two people in the house

One network

Both laptops join the same main network as the printer. A laptop on a neighbor's guest leftover, or on a phone hotspot, will not see it. This sounds obvious until one person works from a VPN that blocks local devices.

Pause the VPN, print, then turn it back on. If work policy requires the VPN always, say that when you book so we do not promise a path their policy forbids.

Defaults

Each computer has its own default printer. Setting it on one does nothing for the other. Print a test from both accounts if a child and an adult share a machine.

Name the printer something you will recognize, not a serial number. Future you, on a phone, will thank you.

The visit

Setup can cover the computers you have in the room. A laptop that is at school cannot be finished today. Tell us what is home.

Troubleshooting later is cheaper if the first visit wrote down the printer's network name.
