Email that opens on the new computer but not the old one

Two devices can hold one mailbox. Signing out of the old one is optional until you are sure.
Add, do not replace yet
On the new computer, add the account and send a message to yourself. Leave the old computer signed in until that message arrives in both places, or only on the server if you read mail on the web.
If the provider asks for an app password, create it from a phone that is already signed in. Guessing the web password ten times locks the mailbox.
What does not transfer
Contacts stored only in an old mail app, and mail downloaded with an old POP setting, stay on the old computer. Those need an export. A setup visit can do that export if you say the mail program's name.
Rules and signatures are per app. They feel like missing mail. They are settings, and they can be retyped in five minutes once the account works.
The old computer
Sign out when the new computer has sent and received mail for a day. If you are giving the old computer away, sign out is part of the wipe visit, not a maybe.
Email setup is its own short visit if mail is the only job. Do not book a full tune-up for a password prompt.
