The desk you sit at every day wants a screen at eye line. The laptop can still be the computer.
The work
If you move the computer to the kitchen and on trips, a laptop is the computer. A desktop earns its space when it never leaves the desk and you want a quieter machine with a larger drive.
Either way, the screen height matters more than the badge on the lid. The top of the display should sit near eye level when you sit in the chair you actually use.
The dock
One cable from the laptop to a dock can carry the monitor, the printer, and power. That is a setup visit, not a shopping spree. Bring the laptop you own so the ports are real, not theoretical.
Wi-Fi at a desk in a far bedroom is a placement problem. A mesh node in the hall, or a cable if you want zero drops on calls, belongs in the same booking if you say so.
What we test
School and work setup ends with a print and a video call. If either fails, the desk is not done.
We do not run new electrical outlets. If the desk has one plug and six devices, a surge strip from the shop is the safe split. It is not a whole-home protector.
